The Hunter Holmes McGuire Veterans Affairs Medical Center is a modern, 474-bed complex whose Medical Service offers a full range of primary and tertiary care services both inpatient and outpatient including:

- Cardiac baroreceptor physiology, Bacterial and fungal genetics, Molecular epidemiolog, Coagulation disorders, Osteoporosis, Cholesterol metabolism, Sexuality in the elderly, Ion transport in the kidney and intestine, Antibiotic resistance and new drug evaluation, Cardiac electrophysiology

Medical Grand Rounds and an active didactic and interactive conference schedule enhance and support the housestaff training programs. Medical Service physicians are heavily involved in student and housestaff teaching.
