Hotel information

The training program has negotiated a reduced rate at the Doubletree Hotel in downtown Richmond. While candidates are welcome to make alternative accommodations, the program recommends staying at the preferred hotel facility with whom shuttle services have been arranged to assist in making your visit to our program as convenient as possible. Reservations are made by the applicant with the hotel directly.

The negotiated rate at the Doubletree is $110 plus taxes and parking (if necessary). For Categorical, and Physician-Scientist applicants, The program will offset $50 of this expense for reservations at the Doubletree. The program has made arrangements with the hotel to provide shuttle service to/from the dinner with the housestaff on the evening prior to the interview as well as to/from the interview day at the VCU Medical Center. A block of rooms is reserved for VCU Internal Medicine Residency candidates. However, to assure room availability, we encourage you to book early. The program cannot guarantee room or rate availability for last minute reservations.

Restaurant information

For applicants applying to our three-year programs, we invite you to join our residents for dinner the evening prior to your interview.

  • The shuttle will depart from the the lobby of the Doubletree Hotel at 6:45 p.m. or you may go directly to the restaurant (please be there by 7:00 p.m.). Our housestaff will meet you at the restaurant.

Driving directions

If you are arriving by car on the day of your interview, you can park in the Parking Decks E & S located at 1220 E. Clay St. We will validate your parking.

Directions to the Housestaff Library Room from the Patient and Visitor Parking Deck

After parking in the Patient and Visitor deck, take the elevators to the eighth floor. (Be sure to bring your parking ticket with you so we can validate it.) As you come off the elevators, follow around to the left and walk up one block to 12th street. Make a left and walk down the hill on 12th street into the back of the Gateway building. Take the up-escalator and follow straight ahead into Main Hospital. See the elevators on the right and take them up to the 3rd floor. As you come off the elevators, walk towards radiology registration and make a right. Follow around to the left and walk up the catwalk into West Hospital. The housestaff library is the 2nd door on your left.

Arriving by I-64 West – coming from Virginia Beach, Williamsburg, etc.

  1. Take Exit #190 for 5th Street and Downtown/Coliseum.
  2. Turn left at the 4th traffic light onto Marshall Street.
  3. Drive six blocks and turn left onto 11th Street.
  4. Drive one block and turn right onto Clay Street.
  5. Go one and one-half blocks to the Patient and Visitor Parking Decks E & S.

Arriving by I-64 East – coming from Charlottesville, I-81, etc.

  1. Follow I-64 East which merges with I-95 South.
  2. Remain on I-95 south to Exit # 74C for West Broad Street.
  3. Proceed West on Broad Street and follow directions given under “arrive by I-95 North.”

Arriving by I-95 North – coming from Petersburg, North Carolina, etc.

  1. Take Exit # 74C for West Broad Street.
  2. Proceed West on Broad Street for three blocks to 11th Street, take right.
  3. Drive two blocks to Clay Street and turn right.
  4. Proceed one and one-half blocks to the Patient and Visitor Parking Decks.

Arriving by I-95 South – coming from Washington, Fredericksburg, etc.

  1. Take Exit # 74C to West Broad Street.
  2. Follow directions given under “arriving by I-95 North.”

Arriving by U.S. Route 60 – coming from Lexington, etc.

  1. Follow U.S. Route 60, which merges with 9th Street.
  2. Remain on 9th Street and go one block past Broad Street to Marshall Street and turn right.
  3. Drive two blocks and turn left onto 11th Street.
  4. Drive one block and turn right onto Clay Street.
  5. Go one and one-half blocks to the Patient and Visitor Parking Decks E & S.
