The VCU Preventive Medicine Residency Program will not be accepting applications for the academic year 2009-2010. The program has applied for a voluntary withdrawal and was approved by the Residency Review Committee for Preventive Medicine, functioning in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). We thank you for your interest in our program.
Description of Program
The program consists of a practicum year. During the practicum year, the resident rotates at various agencies in the Richmond area to gain experience in public health practice and administration. All entering residents must have completed one year of clinical training in a residency program accredited by the ACGME.
Preventive Medicine Residency
Application Process:
- Successful completion of USMLE steps 1, 2 and 3
- Successful completion of a clinical internship in a residency program accredited by the ACGME.
- All entering residents must have an MPH degree
- The program does not accept H1b Visas
- Preference is given to physicians who have completed residency training in another specialty.

winner of the 2007 Resident Research Day Award!
Resident Research Day was held in the Kontos Medical Sciences building yesterday. We had strong research and energy coming from our residents.
For those of you who were there, you saw this. For those who were not
there, you missed a wonderful opportunity to see how incredible our
residents are and to support them.
Congratulations to the winners and great thanks to the judges: Evan
Reiter, Jeff Greene, and Jerry Strauss, and in the Oral presentations. Wil
Zuelzer, Rich Costanzo and George Vetrovec for the Poster presentations.
Special thanks to Evan Reiter for sponsoring this for the 4th year in a
row. Great job Evan. Special thanks also to Stephanie Brown for all the
behind the scenes work. Also thanks to Martha Ecker from the GME office
for staffing the event and making it go smoothly.
